Sounds like a lot of us are waiting for a serious MBA update in terms of Sandy bridge etc.
Hope it comes before the end of the year. Summer would be nice, I'll get it with my iPhone 5.

who's lupe??
I think they're talking about Lupe Fiasco. Quite possibly the most overrated lyricist of all time.

I can understand people's impatience with Apple for not having a complete AppleWorks replacement already, but if you look at their long term plans for iWork it makes perfect sense. If you start out with a solid foundation it is easier to make improvements so follow my thinking:
"iWork '03"
Keynote 1
iWork '05
Keynote 2 - improvements
Pages 1 - introduced and is a cross between a word processor and a page layout program. Handles the basics of both well but lacks "pro" features
iWork '06
Keynote 3 - improvements
Pages 2 - gets table cell formulas, sorting, number formatting (preparation for spreadsheet app), comments (colaboration), thumbnail view (page finding, ordering, deleting), address book support (mail merge), endnotes, automatic text correction, and general improvements to features already there.
iWork '07
Keynote 4 - improvements
Pages 3 - gets modes which separates word processing tasks/items from page layout tasks/items (reduced clutter), ability to create custom formulas.
Spreadsheet 1 - can import/read Excel data, save as/export to Excel file, basic reporting, there will be a way supply the charts in Keynote and Pages with data, plus whatever Apple adds
iWork '08
Keynote 5 - improvements
Pages 4 - word processing and page layout tasks are improved to the point where they are looking like two separate apps
Spreadsheet 2 - general improvements, reporting feature gets most improvement by being able to "drill" down through pie charts.
iWork '09
Keynote 6 - improvements
Pages 5 - improved to the point where it is only a word processor now.
Page Layout 1 - "New" app that has broken away from Pages and is now the "iApp" of DTPs. This could happen in iWork '08.
Spreadsheet 3 - Gets ODBC support
Database 1 - most likely SQLite, or equivalent, with a sweet front-end. Hopefully, it will be a true RDBMS and not something like what came with AppleWorks.
Reports 1 - (ie Crystal Reports) This is a stretch but if not a separate app then more of an "engine" that is used by the spreadsheet and database apps.
I do not use Keynote which is why I only entered "improvements" next to it.

what system does your iMac currently have? I think it has to be upgraded to OS 9.1 first before you can upgrade to Panther......and you have to make sure you install the required firmware upgrade or you can kill your monitor
go to Apple.com and find their OS X page....it'll give you more info

Any ideas how to get this rate up?
(5 other 2.4GHZ networks neighbours.)
i, too live in an area with lots of other networks around, causing wireless interference (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365?viewlocale=en_US) for my network.
my solution (and recommendation to you) was to hardwire my TVs to my TC using powerline adapters (http://www.powerlineethernetadapter.com/netgear-powerline-adapter).
in fact, i have all my gear hardwired except my mobile devices.
edit: more on how to evaluate the relationship between signal and noise numbers here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10329543&start=1).

There was a thread citing this blog post (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Murphy/?p=479) earlier this week that said that G4 costs apple something like US $72 ; while the current pentium m predecessor to the yonah is more than US $240. These are volume prices to the manufacturers. So unless apple is going to cut corners somewhere else I think the intel books will cost at least a little more.

I got it from the Fantasy Factory event that Rob Dyrdek hosted on Thursday. No I did not go myself :( but I have a friend that went and he said they had lots of copies for everyone that attended. I tried all week to get me a early copy but no luck.
Any of you get a copy early and want to play? And if you did get it early, how? Maybe others wanna get it early
I'm not a big fan of Halo, but I'm pretty sure it isn't meant to be released worldwide until the 14th or something...
When Halo 3 was released, someone somehow got a copy of it the day before it was released. They went on Xbox LIVE with it (on the same day) and they were banned until December 31, 9999. I suggest you be careful until the 14th...

5P, Let's boil this down to two questions...
1. Is it true that wealth is getting more and more distributed into the hands of the rich?
Yes. However, I have a few issues here. First, the wealth IS NOT being 'distributed' to the rich, but rather the distribution of total wealth is changing naturally as a consequence of markets, trends, etc. Second, no one should care about the distribution of wealth. The success of my neighbor (or employer) is not a detriment to me in any way. In fact, it's a benefit as it improves the general economy, opens up new employment opportunities, increases the GDP, brings more money into my community, etc. It's a COMPLETE fallacy that in order for one person to get rich, another has to get poor... we've discussed this several times (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1035668) and the truth is on my side.
2. Does/should the government play any role in the proportioning of that wealth?
No, generally the free market and private charity should. Government generally should not pick winners and losers. Government should not redistribute wealth. That being said, there is a major difference between local governments and the federal government in this regard. One can constitutionally enact welfare, SS, socialized medicine, etc. (State) and one can't (Federal). Also, with so many people reliant on the state for their survival at this point, any transition out of this system of hand-outs, 'entitlements', etc. will need to be a graduated one. This damage was inflicted over 100 years, it can't be undone in just a few.

I would take my iPod and Mac to the Apple store, but my warranty is out. It's been out for a long time too. And yes, I am using the Last.fm Scrobbler.
This is the likely source of your problem. The last.fm scrobbler doesn't deal particularly well larger libraries and larger capacity iPods. When you plug in your iPod the scrobbler will attempt to scrobble your plays from the iPod. While it does this, it completely freezes iTunes. If you open up Activity Monitor, you will see iTunes using 100% of your CPU resources on one of your cores. I have a 3 GHz MacPro and it freezes my iTunes for 2-5 minutes. iTunes is not multi-threaded, so it will only use one core/thread.
There is a temporary solution involving the deletion of one of the last.fm scrobbler logs. I'll see if I can find it. You could turn off iPod scrobbling, which will solve the problem. You may also want to try a different scrobbler. Unfortunately, it's probably an annoyance you'll have to live with if you want to scrobble.

I had my previous battery for about 4 years. I replaced it with a Nupower battery when I started getting charges of up to 88% and it would die in about an hour. I went with Nupower (bc I don't like to give Apple my money) and they advertise 5% more battery life. I have been unable to get it to charge to 100%. It stops at 99% and lasts about 2 and a half hours of just regular internet reading (no special programs, videos, etc...). I am wondering if I have a defective battery and if it should last longer?

It depends on how you're running the vm, full screen, coherence, etc. From full screen you hit control+option and click on the devices menu at the top then scroll down to CD/DVD1, that'll open a menu to the side and click on default CD/DVD. That will connect the disc drive to the vm, just remember to disconnect it when you're done.
Ahh great that worked thanks :D

I don't think there's a way to do what you're doing. However, if you have a laptop that you can plug in, you can setup Internet Sharing and create a WiFi hotspot (password protected) using your laptop's wifi card.
Thanks. I was hoping to start leaving my laptop at home. A lot of hotels, even good hotels, don't have wi-fi in the rooms, but they do have a wired internet point of presence in every room. If I can't use an iPad under those circumstances, there's just no reason for me to get one.

Don't quote me on this but I'm under the impression that iTunes' ToS forces you to agree that you don't own any purchased media and thus cannot edit the files in any way, irrespective of your location.
You are correct. The music, movies, TV shows etc. you buy off iTunes you don't actually own. You're simply paying Apple to allow you to 'use' the media.

Are you using striping from OS X or did you set you RAID 1 with only two drives?
I a new Mac Pro is not expected until 4Q 2011 or 2012. I do not want to wait that long for a stupid processor chipset. :D A few months is optimal, but 6-8 is not feasible. Thanks again for sharing knowledge and swapping ideas!
hey 100Teraflops glad your getting some good advice, the good monitor is a must for photography, check the dell 2209wa (i think it's still about) or the HP 2310i, both nice monitors, but the internal raid i have is a software raid 1 mirror, works well for my needs. Are you really sure you want to wait for the 'latest' Mac Pro? do you need the latest chipset? there are plenty of great deals on used machines, ideal for photography, save the $$$ on the MP and spend the rest on some quality Lenses, I know a photographer that uses a G5 with no problems :)
remember as firestater states, raid is no back up plan, I use a raid 1 external system as it suits my needs.
