Scary, and seems to be US only.

And remarkably inaccurate when I looked myself up. It has a bit of correct information on my parents. I'm actually surprised at how wrong they were since I have a fairly large internet footprint (of course, these guys probably don't have Google's database since they're just skimming).

just out of curiosity, what type of work?

Lots of places require antivirus software installed to access their internet. I'm at uni and no mac or pc will get internet access unless they pass a test with valid and up to date antivirus. I think it's a good thing, even for mac users, as it limits the amount of viruses that are passed on.

We get McAfee on a uni license, but this might make me consider Sophos instead if it's lighter on system resources (the only thing I don't like about antivirus software...)

I'm gonna go on record and say they will NOT intro new MBP at wwdc. Some sales of the current MBP are better than none and if they they intro a new one they will not sell any and probably just take pre orders. Not gonna happen. They will wait until late August or early September to announce them when they are actually ready.Steve does not have to announce any new products to say they are going to shift to Core 2 across the board ASAP. :)

A chip update has NOTHING to do with any outstanding issues, sorry...Apple is fully capable of fixing those (if any) with a better design AND a better chip.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

A slightly improved version of the iPad 2 could also be released around that time, to be sold alongside the current version. September's Apple event could be a lot more than just new iPods. iPad 2 only just launched yesterday in various other countries. It will most likely sell out there this weekend as well. Most people still have a few weeks to wait for ordered iPad 2's. They can barely meet demand now. App developers have barely even scratched the surface of updating and writing apps to take advantage of all the new goodies in the iPad 2. With the tragedy in Japan, some components are in short supply. iPad 2 has barely gotten out of the gate! With a track record like that for the iPad 2, I just can't see how anyone can believe any type of iPad 3 launch will take place in the Fall. Besides, that's when they launch iPods for Xmas anyway. They already have a product schedule for that window. "2011 is the Year of iPad 2".

    Look for iPad 3 March/April 2012.

Steve Jobs said there was no point in making a small iPad - but maybe apple will work around that by making a big iPod Touch. Perhaps in the fall, at the iPod event, they'll announce a 6"-7" Maximum Touch, aka iPad Mini. It'll run iPhone/Touch apps but not iPad apps. They sort out the screen resolution/display in a way so that iPhone apps will be automatically blown up to fit the screen so developers won't have to create iPad Mini-specific apps. No retina display. Will be kept at a modest price point - between the regular iPad and Touch prices. Released just in time for the holiday shopping season: An iPad that's cheaper than a regular iPad and can fit in a purse. A great present for the wife. It'll be THE stocking stuffer of the year. This iPad mini could be what the "new iPad in September" rumors are really about. Just don't call it an iPad 3 or Mr. jobs will get mad. It's the "Big Touch," yo.

As much as I want to see Apple sell phones, I also like to see healthy competition to keep away anti-trust issues. Apple is for people who like quality high-end stuff and Android is for Kmart shoppers ;)

Thankfully my AT&T coverage is so weak, there is no way Apple can track me.

I'm thinking many people are going to be upset after WWDC because they didn't get what they wanted - there is too much expected here. WWDC is aimed at developers. The only reason they would roll out an iPod now instead of the norm of September is because they are putting games on it or making it a Ulta-portable. To rephrase it, there will be no iPod update at WWDC. New colors of tube socks? Maybe.

I agree with the other post about what is certain and what is not. However, I am not sure I see an update coming for the ACDs. They are hot, the Pro enclosure (G5 --> MacPro) is likely not to change, and they are selling well.

I think expecting Apple to dump everything they have been working on now is simply myopic. They will stagger releases as always, and no worries children, the Steve is a benevolent provider.

Kind of weird, Apple should not be meddling in that stuff. Way way too domineering.

Apple should absolutely have asked for this.

Toyota should have said 'no,' but for Apple to not ask at all would have been irresponsible. They're being consistant, which is a good thing.

    The answer is 288.

Anyone with a decent education is taught B.E.D.M.A.S not PEDMAS.

    Brackets.Exponents. Division.Addition/Subtraction in that order!

    /End thread.

I was taught BODMAS (Brackets, order ...) when I was about 10. Then you never use it again so long as people learn to write maths equations properly.

THIS COULD BE A KILLER GADGET FOR PRESENTATIONS.

    1. Make presentation with Keynote or PowerPoint on Mac or PC-Windows.

    2. Transfer the NATIVE file to the Tablet.

    3. Carry the wireless Tablet with you and use its remore control for wireless presentations.

Even better would be if an iPod Video or iPhone Video form-factor did the task of wireless computer + presentation remote (booting Mac OS X mobile). Something like this for true wireless computerless presentations:

    http://www.t3.co.uk/news/247/communications/mobile_phone/evidence_mounts_for_january_iphone

    http://www.t3.co.uk/nested_content/gallery_assetlisting_navigation?root=633162&result_page=1
    http://www.t3.co.uk/nested_content/gallery_assetlisting_navigation?root=633162&result_page=2
    http://www.t3.co.uk/nested_content/gallery_assetlisting_navigation?root=633162&result_page=3

But the Tablet could be a good start point, before shrinking it to an iPod Video/iPhone Video form factor. Or could we have both? Hopefully.

I remember first seeing the GalaxyS and it's such a blatant rip-off of Apple's design they have every right to sue on this..

But now watch as the Apple haters try to weasel this as a 'generic' design..

Apple brings out the 'App Store'.. everyone copies them....It's generic

Apple brings out the iPhone... everyone copies them.. It's generic

Imitation is a form of flattery.. but when you're business depends on having the best designs, you need to protect your edge.

Well clearly you havent used lion. There are a lot of changes, i thought the developer preview was solid for that early a release. Its looking VERY PROMISING.

I was talking about the UI. If you are too, what are these "a lot" of changes to the UI?

I've never heard of this company -- are they reputable, does anyone know? I've heard all sorts of stories abut these types of things being spyware or some such, don't want to pollute my Mac with any of that garbage!

    You're joking right?!

They are the one of the biggest security product vendors!

I have installed this, no slow down and it doesn't get in the way.

I have it installed as I frequently share files with Windows users and don't want to be a carrier.

    MacShrine? Who?

    What's their record?

they're alright. they had exclusive pictures of mac os x 10.3 and 10.4 before wwdc, and got lots of iPod things right (like dropping the gold mini, size bumps...) as well as as Mac updates such as Xserves, iMacs and iBooks. the only real fiasco they've had was that whole ipod video thing in march, but to be fair everyone fell for that, even thinksecret and appleinsider, macshrine were just the first to publish them.

i'm psyched about the updates, i want a magnetic latch!

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

.... Most other countries enacted policy through a quiet parliamentary action that was later carried out by agencies or at a time when most people weren't active in politics. ...

In the US there are a lot of veto points in the legislative process, making any significant change hard to do. ... why should they care about a measurement system when the one they are using right now is working for them?
    ...
Any realistic transition for the US would take decades.

This, I believe, captures the situation really well. Inertia, coupled with a fairly de-centralized government (at least as far as this issue is concerned). And a population that is fairly resistant to change, in many areas.

Another example is the move to a $1 coin. How many times and for how long has the US been trying to introduce this coin? Every study done shows it will save taxpayers money. Still no-go. In Canada we had no choice. The $1 coin was introduced, then the banks were told to hand out only the coins, and to start sending back to Ottawa any $1 bills that their customers were depositing. Within a few years we were a $1 bill free country. Then they removed the $2 bills. These bills are still legal, there just isn't any of them circulating. And if a bank gets one, they don't put it back into circulation. Done.

I don't see that happening. Apple tends to avoid complicated product lines. That is one too many options in my opinion.

Considering we have three tier (or more) systems with other Apple lines I don't see it as a total impossibility.

Mac Mini > iMac > Mac Pro
MacBook > MacBook Air > MacBook Pro
iPod Shuffle > Nano > Classic > Touch etc.

We'll have to wait and see how it all turns out!:)

LG was first (before iPhone) to release smart phone with capacitive screen and UI that looks suspiciously close to iPhone. Here is Prada:

    http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/PRADA-Phone-LG-KE850-1.jpg

If Apple prevails in court. LG would be stupid not to sue Apple (and they would probably get more money considering iPhone volumes).

Do you honestly think that even strikes anything close to a sufficient resemblance to the iPhone UI?

You can update hardware silently on a different day and still dedicate time to the two major OSes. I don't see the big deal. The MacBook Pros got Quad Core/Thunderbolt treatment but there was only a press release. Shame the iPhone cycle will be slightly extended this year though but oh well.
